However, there is no way they could have forecasted the series of events that happened next. The fact that the story behind that dog only came to light when the vet got in touch with the police. It turned out that the family had gotten a lot more than they bargained for.

Why Were The Police Involved?

Neither Billy nor Erica knew what to make of it. When the vet took their dog away, he didn’t say a word to them. So what was going on? Could the weird behavior they experienced the previous night have something to do with this? Or was there something else going on?

Within ten minutes of leaving the waiting room, the vet returned. However, the dog was not with him. Even before they could question him about the dog’s whereabouts, the vet told them that he had just called the cops and that they were on their way there. Erica and Billy were confused.

Offering An Explanation

Their little boy Tim was begging to get his dog back and couldn’t stop the tears from running down his eyes. It was as if he had just started getting attached to this pet as a part of his family, and suddenly, his new friend was about to be taken from him.

There had to be an explanation, and as expected, the vet gave one. When the vet explained himself, it suddenly made sense to the couple. They couldn’t believe they had allowed themselves to be so naive. In order to better comprehend this situation, some background information would help.

Getting To Know The Anderson Family

The Andersons were a young family who had just set up their lives in Vermont. Their family consisted of Billy, the man of the house, Erica, his wife, and Tim, the family’s four-year-old son. They all lived together in a small town but were content with the way life was.

Although, there had been a recent event in the Anderson household that had made them all sad. Yes, the young family had just moved into a new town and didn’t know much about it, but that wasn’t why they were feeling down. Their sadness was for an entirely different reason.

A Dog Named Rio

A dear member of the young family had passed away, one who had been with them for over a decade, their family pet, Rio. In addition to being a pet, Rio was a longstanding family member. At 16, when Billy ran away from home, Rio was the first friend he made.

The situation at Billy’s house had not been pleasant. He was verbally and emotionally abused by his parents, whose constant monitoring prevented him from having friends. Often, Billy dreamed of a world outside the reach of his parents. So much so that the very first thing he did upon leaving was buy a puppy.

Man’s Best Friend

Billy and Rio were best friends for the first two years. Being on his own was hard, but he had a loyal friend to support him. Rio had been by Billy’s side for all the significant moments. Among the highlights was his first date with Erica and the birth of their son, Tim.

Rio was a special part of their family life and became as close to their son, Tim, as he had been to Billy. Rio’s departure made it clear that nothing would be the same again. There was no doubt that the family was unhappy, but they had an idea of how they would handle it.

Plans For Another Dog

Eventually, they made plans to get another dog. However, Billy had to admit that he wasn’t sure about his plan after making the decision. Erica was visibly unsure about it and shook her head, knowing that it was far too soon to be bringing a new pet into the family.

Having lost Rio, which was dear to her husband and Tim, she was a bit surprised that he had mentioned the prospect of replacing this beloved pet so soon afterward. It was, however, clear that there was a dog-shaped hole in their lives as a family that needed to be filled.

Agreeing To Make The Change

But they both knew this was a big decision, and Erica and Billy discussed it several times after that. It worried Erica to the extent that Billy was rushing to replace their dog of more than a decade. But he tried convincing her that he was ready for a change.

They knew they both had to be on the same page on this matter, and after much deliberation, they finally came to an agreement that they would be getting a new dog. Little did they know, however, that that would be the easy part as the challenges had just begun.

Getting A Husky

It was important for the family to choose the next breed they would have. Following the vote, they decided on a husky since Tim would have an easier time adjusting because Rio was also a husky. Tim wanted a puppy badly, so the family began searching the web for a licensed breeder.

It was the couple’s first time in the breeding world, and they felt the internet would be beneficial. They found two husky breeders after an extensive search. They planned the trip for a weekend and scheduled meetings with both breeders. However, the trip wasn’t quite as successful as expected.

Not Finding What They Wanted

From the beginning, it seemed the first breeder was a bad match. Billy could not fight the weird feeling that he got at the location despite the puppies being cute and Tim and Erica having fun with them. In the first place, it appeared the dogs were living in uncomfortable conditions, and secondly, the price seemed excessive.

They had the same experience at the second store. Although this breeder was more hygienic and appeared to take better care of the puppies, the couple was met with disappointing news upon arrival. The two last puppies were sold to people who chose to buy online. This perplexed them.

A Fated Animal Shelter

Once again, the family felt disheartened that the trip had been a waste of time and money. Erica and Billy decided that the best thing to do would be to return home and make a new plan. They were trying to replace a dog that was like family, so they had to make sure it felt right.

On their way home, about 15 minutes into their journey, they came across a shelter for animals. It was an unexpected find, and they wondered if a shelter in a small town like this could have what they wanted. It would later become apparent that they were fated to find this shelter.

The Last Hope

It made Erica very happy. She was beginning to lose hope and was feeling dismayed when she came across the small shelter by the roadside. Her eyes turned to Billy, whom she pleaded to stop and take a look inside.

Perhaps it was just her intuition, but something told her that what they were looking for was inside this shelter. They had already been disappointed by the journey they had taken to the previous locations, and at this point, they realized that it couldn’t hurt to try something else. So, the couple decided to go ahead and go check it out.

Something Got Their Attention

They found the shelter in a nearby small city and didn’t expect that there would be much to choose from. That turned out to be the case. According to the shelter attendant, they only kept five dogs, two of which were puppies. Nevertheless, there was one dog who drew their attention immediately.

One of the puppies caught their eye, and Tim exclaimed excitedly after seeing it. The puppy looked similar to a husky, and they were confident that at least one of its parents was that breed. However, what amazed them about the animal was the color of its eyes.

A Dog With Blue Eyes

None of them had seen such sterling blue eyes on a dog. The puppy was timid and smiled while keeping a distance. In contrast to other dogs who danced and hopped to get attention, the adorable puppy kept staring at the door as if on alert for something.

According to the employee, it was just the previous night that the dog was left at their door, and it was still adjusting to the new space. Because the puppy was new and had been left without identification or a chip, they knew very little about it. The Andersons wanted the puppy, but they faced a few challenges.

Making An Exception For The Andersons

The major challenge had to do with the paperwork. The shelter employee revealed to them that under normal circumstances, the shelter wouldn’t release animals without verifying their identity first. Despite this rule, it was a small town, and the shelter had not had any adoptions for several months.

Because of that, the employees took a risky step against their usual protocols and told the family that they would make an exception for them. There was no way they could have known what would happen next. Was it possible that they were going to regret making that decision in the near future?

Finally Getting A New Dog

They chose not to overthink potential consequences. After all, the puppy needed a home, and it didn’t seem like they were doing anything wrong by letting the family take care of the puppy. And after signing the necessary paperwork, the couple was overjoyed.

It felt like they were destined to find that puppy and after they had seen how adorable it was, they were not about to let that opportunity go. The entire time that Billy and Erica signed the papers, young Tim played with their newest family member, who was slowly becoming accustomed to the young boy’s playful advances.

Taking Their New Pet Home

Signing and recording all the paperwork took about an hour. After they had retrieved their new family pet, they headed home. No one expected that their day would go the way it did. None of the things they planned ended up working out. It was an unexpected and unplanned location that provided what they wanted. So much for making plans.

The entire Anderson family was very excited, though it was clear that Tim, in particular, was the most delighted as he had now made a new best friend. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before events caused the family’s happiness to wear thin.

Conditions For The Adoption

Before taking the pet home, they were given a few instructions by the shelter employees about getting the dog checked at the vet. That was the condition that they had to comply with to take the pet home. The family agreed.

They were allowed to take the puppy home after agreeing to schedule a visit to the vet. The employees at the shelter revealed that they had not had the opportunity to do it themselves. They had no idea their newfound joy would soon be snatched away by a shocking revelation. At the time, they did not realize what the visit to the vet would lead to.

Blue’s New Home

The plan now was to get the visit to the vet out of the way so that they could begin to get to know the new member of their household, who they named Blue. The family felt they could take Blue to see the vet that same day but realized that they would have to be in a rush.

To avoid that rush, they arranged an appointment for the next day. At this point, the first thing they had on their mind was for Blue to meet his new home. After their long journey ended and arriving home, they noticed that Blue seemed happy.

An Excited Puppy

Blue seemed overwhelmed with excitement when they returned home. They had kept a dog for so long previously, so they didn’t need to do any shopping in preparation for their new pet. They watched as the dog happily explored every corner of the house.

As they observed Blue inspect his new surroundings, they noticed him eventually end up at the dog bed, where he quickly fell asleep. Surely they could relate. After the long day they had all experienced, it was expected that the puppy would be tired. They were just as tired and would need their rest as well.

Falling In Love With The New Dog

It had not taken long for the family to fall head over heels in love with their new member, and they could not be happier to welcome him into the home. There was nothing more beautiful than watching this cute little puppy sleep peacefully.

Although they remembered the circumstances surrounding the adoption of this dog, it didn’t seem to be at the forefront of their minds. And while they were happy that they had finally filled the void that Rio left, sadly, so much remained unknown about this new dog. Even those at the shelter didn’t know much about it.

Getting Some Rest

But they didn’t have the time to think so hard about things they had little information about. Everyone was tired, and the family went to bed shortly after settling. It appeared that Blue had already been asleep for an hour, so they felt comfortable leaving him to himself.

Blue wasn’t the only excited one that day. Their day had also been filled with excitement, and all that was left to finalize the process of getting their new dog was to be done the next day. As soon as they had all gotten some much-needed rest, they would visit the vet.

Settling In With The New Dog

It had been a while since the family was so happy. Even though no one could ever fully replace Rio, the Anderson family felt that this fated blue-eyed puppy they had found was the perfect replacement for him. Tim, in particular, felt that way.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly, and everyone hoped to enjoy many years with Blue as a part of their family. It was a pity, however, that the happy times they were experiencing would not last as long as they had wished for. In fact, it didn’t seem like it was going to last at all.

A Strange Noise At Night

It wasn’t yet time for their appointment with the vet, but the family’s sleep was disrupted in the middle of the night. It was about 2 a.m. when they were woken up by a loud howling noise that was coming from down the stairs.

This startled Billy a little, and he had to try and calm himself down for a quick moment before he could begin to act. As Billy rubbed the sleep away from his eyes, he made his way downstairs to see how Blue was doing and hopefully also figure out where the howling noise had come from.

Finding Blue At Billy’s Computer

What Billy came to find was a bit shocking to him. When Billy came down the stairs, he found that Blue was no longer in his sleeping place, and he wondered where he could be. He eventually discovered that the puppy had made his way to his PC in his office and was seated right next to it.

This was pretty strange behavior, and it left Billy somewhat confused about what was going on with the dog. There had been no known instance of Rio or any other dog he had come across reacting in this way to a computer.

Taking Blue Back To Bed

Additionally, Billy discovered that it was Blue who was howling so loudly, and it wasn’t until he was picked up and carried away from the PC that the strange howling stopped. Blue was eventually returned to his sleeping area, and he fell right asleep again.

At least, despite the distress sounds, he complied with Billy without much of a fight. Billy went upstairs after closing the door to his office. He was way too tired to reflect on what had happened at that moment. Thankfully, for the rest of the night, he didn’t hear any more howling from the dog.

Finding Blue Near The Office Again

But when the family all woke up at the proper time in the morning, they found that Blue was sleeping against the door of Billy’s office where he was taken away from in the middle of the night. Everyone wondered about this behavior.

There was no indication of how long Blue had been there, why he was even doing this, or how long he would stay at that door. Although he wasn’t sure of why, it was obvious to Billy that Blue was attracted to the computer, even when he could not see it. Was he able to sense it somehow?

Appointment Day With The Vet

In spite of this, the family barely had time to think of an explanation for this unusual behavior, as they had an appointment at the vet an hour later. As soon as they were ready, they hopped into the car and drove to the vet. For some reason, Blue still seemed sleepy as they drove.

Considering where they found him in the morning, Blue most likely wasn’t able to get much sleep as he was pretty fixated on being able to access the office and the computer. No one had seen a dog so interested in electronic devices, and they couldn’t wrap their heads around it.

Family Trip To The Vet

The original plan that Billy had was to have Tim stay at home because he felt they were very likely to spend some time in the waiting room. But Tim was not going to let Blue out of his sight that easily, so all three of them went together.

After spending so much time with Rio, Billy was already accustomed to how these visits to the vet usually went. His only worry was that he didn’t want Tim sitting through the long wait at the clinic. However, they would soon wish that Billy had gone on his own but for a very different reason.

A Busy Clinic

As Billy anticipated, the family had to wait a bit after arriving at the vet, and it was already very busy at that early hour. Seeing as there were already a lot of people to be attended to, they knew they would end up being delayed and accepted their fate while waiting.

With the waiting room being quite full, everyone had the time to pay attention to each other, and it just happened that Blue had grabbed the attention of many. Of course, it was due primarily to his unusual characteristics. Not many people had seen a dog like that.

Everyone’s Attention Is On Blue

Because it was the first time many people in the waiting room had seen a pup with blue eyes of this nature, the Anderson family was flooded with questions. Unfortunately, there were almost no questions they could answer since they had not done any research of their own yet.

It must have been apparent to those asking questions that Blue was a recently acquired dog. That would be the only explanation as to why the owners didn’t have answers to their questions. The Andersons hadn’t considered it, so there was no explanation as to why Blue had these brightly colored eyes.

Researching Their Dog

Now that they had a little time on their hands while waiting for the vet, they began to look up more information on the internet that could provide answers about their new dog’s unique blue eyes. But, they weren’t able to find much information on the internet.

According to their research, it was even rarer than they initially thought. They found that only about five percent of dogs had eyes like that. It’s no wonder many people had never come across any like Blue; it was also the first thing that drew the family’s attention to the dog when they were at the shelter.

Explanations For The Blue Eyes

One of the only logical explanations they could find was rather uninteresting. There is a possibility of this being caused by cells that are unable to produce pigment, something that is rare but is still possible. When it is their turn to see the vet, perhaps he will give them more information about it.

But they hoped that it didn’t mean anything bad for their dog. A quick check on the internet would reveal all the things that could be wrong with dogs with blue eyes, and they could easily begin to worry that those things apply to their dog.

The Receptionist Makes An Observation

During the time they were being questioned by so many people about their dog, there was a bit of frenzy in the waiting room. Little did they know that all this commotion had also attracted the attention of the receptionist at the vet’s office.

After the receptionist saw and heard what was happening, she immediately called the vet and informed him of what was going on. Why did she feel the need to report that random commotion? Eventually, the vet could move up the Andersons’ appointment a bit, temporarily postponing his appointment with the person who was supposed to be next.

Moving Up Their Appointment

Within minutes, the vet himself walked into the waiting room and began talking with the patients. Without saying much, the vet simply let the Andersons know that it was their turn to be attended to. It was a surprise to Billy, but he was also pleased since he didn’t think they would be attended to anytime soon.

No one likes to wait for so long, so Billy was obviously happy that he could save a lot of time because his appointment came sooner than expected. But it made them wonder; what were the reasons behind the vet moving them up the list?

Blue Is Taken Away

After telling them they would be attended to next, Blue was picked up by the vet, inspected quickly, and then taken into his office, where he was thoroughly examined. Initially, Billy was a bit confused because he had expected they would join him in the office.

In the past, Billy had been on several of these appointments with Rio, and what would have happened in this situation was that he would be in the vet’s office with the dog while the tests were done in order to distract him. That was also what he hoped to do in Blue’s case.

The Vets Office

But seeing as the vet didn’t even invite them in, all he could do was sit still. Ten minutes after the family waited in anticipation, the vet returned, and the family could not have been happier. They all hoped Blue was fine even though they didn’t get to ask about the blue eyes.

However, they noticed the vet did not have Blue with him when he came out. Before the family could ask any questions, the vet ushered them into another room to avoid interruptions as they spoke. This is where he began to explain what was really going on.

The Police Had Been Involved

Whatever he told the family there did not sit well with them, and they must have been shocked at this revelation. Upon talking to the family, he informed them that he had notified the police about their dog and that they would soon be there to pick up Blue.

As Billy and Erica stared in shock at what was happening, Tim started crying heavily in the corner of the room. It would seem whatever the situation was, the dog was to be taken away. He started wailing for his dog to be returned to him and not taken by the police.

Understanding The Situation

Poor Tim wasn’t in any position to understand the explanation offered by the vet, but Billy and Erica started to grasp the situation. It was explained by the vet that a couple of days ago, a story was published about a missing dog belonging to an unnamed tech CEO.

And as it would appear, Blue matched the description to a tee. We’re guessing the description must have included the blue eyes that stood out, so there was almost no doubt. He also informed them that the CEO of the tech company was offering a handsome reward to anyone who could find this special puppy.

The Reason For Not Telling The Andersons

The veterinarian continued explaining to the family that they were not in trouble and told them that he wanted to call the police first before informing them. He believed their love for the dog could be so strong that they may decide to run away with the dog instead of allowing the vet to return him.

Considering how Tim didn’t let the dog out of his sight for even a minute, the vet may have a valid point regarding the reason behind his approach. The question now is, despite the police being involved, were they willing to accept the CEO’s claim to the dog?

The CEO’s Arrival

A little more than 30 minutes later, the CEO arrived along with the police and sat down with the family. The CEO proved to the family that the puppy truly belonged to him. The chip had not yet been put in, simply because he hadn’t gotten around to doing it.

As the owner of the dog, he had a lot more information he could share about the blue-eyed puppy. With the overwhelming evidence, Billy and Erica had to concede that he truly was the owner of the dog, to Tim’s disappointment. At least, the dog’s weird behavior began to make sense.

The Dog’s Behavior Now Made Sense

In retrospect, it seemed logical to Billy that the dog was so drawn to PCs as he had spent so much time in the CEO’s office, having been around them all the time. There’s a good chance he recognized it and reacted to it because he would have felt a connection with it.

Maybe when he was seated in front of Billy’s PC, he began to miss his owner and was howling as a result. It made sense now that the dog even went back to the office door in the middle of the night because he was hoping to find the CEO.

Returning The Dog To The CEO

Despite Tim’s disappointment, the family had no choice but to let the CEO take the dog back. In spite of the fact that the puppy’s owner was the CEO, he still regarded Blue as his own dog. Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about it since the facts remained the same.

The Anderson family was now back to square one. The dog they thought had been the missing piece of their family was about to be taken away, and they once again had a hole to fill in their home. However, there was some good news regarding the situation.

An Amazing Reward

The veterinarian mentioned that retrieving the puppy also had a reward attached to it. The CEO made sure that the reward was presented to the family since they did find the puppy. Maybe the dog shelter also deserved some part of the reward.

The Andersons soon learned that the dog they named Blue was actually named North. The CEO also promised them that, in addition to giving them the reward, he would be able to allow them to see North at any time they wanted! The CEO was pretty amazing about the whole situation and grateful that he found his dog.

Finally Getting Their Own Puppy

Although Tim must have been happy that he would be allowed to see North whenever he wanted to, it just wasn’t quite the same as having his own pet in the house. So, several weeks after the incident at the vet, the family found a new husky puppy to take care of.

Using the CEO’s money, they got a more expensive one that had been raised in a proper method and had been thoroughly checked. As soon as they met this new puppy, they began to love it just as much as Blue, so everybody ended up happy! What an amazing story!
